New Community Book Swap Now Open at the Village Hall!

We are so excited to announce that our brand-new Community Book Swap Library is ready to be hang at the hall once CCTV is installed!

This simple, heart-warming idea — “Take a book, leave a book” — is already bringing smiles to faces and stories into homes. Whether you are a lifelong bookworm or just looking for something new to read, there’s something here for everyone.

🛠️ A Wee Trial, Built With Love

As many of you know from my earlier blog posts, this little library is a trial run — made inexpensively (mostly with upcycled materials) and supported by good old-fashioned community power.

We truly hope it:

  • Stands the test of time

  • Is loved and used by all

  • Remains respected and appreciated (fingers crossed — no vandalism!)

If it proves to be a hit, we can dream a little bigger in the future. But for now, our wee library will do just fine — a small but mighty box of books, ready to be shared.

🙌 Thank You to Our Helpers!

Credit where credit is due...

A huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers who made this possible:

  • Dale, Traquair Village Hall’s trusty joiner, for installing a door onto our repurposed bedside unit

  • Mark Phelan, for crafting and branding the clear plastic window for the door frame, making it look fancy by adding our logo and text

Your time, effort, and love for our village truly brought this idea to life!

And not to be forgotten — a wee nod to yours truly for dreaming up the idea, sourcing the unit, organising, installing, and painting it.

You're welcome 😊 — I hope you love it as much as I do!

📖 Come Swap, Share, and Read!

We are thrilled to have a space where people of all ages can:

  • Discover new books

  • Share their favourites

  • Enjoy the magic of reading, together

So stop by, browse the shelves, and join in!

Cheers,

Franziska
