We are making exciting progress around the Village Green and the Village Hall area — from tree maintenance to new planters, and even plans for a new Christmas tree.
Here’s what’s happening:
🌲 Tree Trimming & Christmas Tree Update
We have received a lot of messages recently about the overgrown trees around the Village Green and along the lane between the Green and Govans Way — thank you to everyone who got in touch!
We are pleased to confirm that tree trimming is scheduled for early autumn, with the help of our brilliant local tree surgeon, Ross. We only scheduled the trimming now, so this timing gives the trees the best chance to recover and stay healthy into next summer.
As part of this work:
The current "wee" Christmas tree will be removed, along with the trimming of the surrounding trees.
A new Christmas tree will be installed later in the year — this one will not be planted, unfortunately, but it will still bring plenty of festive cheer to the Green during the holidays.
🌼 New Planters & Heritage-Inspired Flower Beds
We are also excited to announce the arrival of railway-style sleeper planters for the flower beds around the Village Hall. This design was chosen to reflect the heritage of the old railway path that once ran through Cardrona.
To keep costs manageable, we have opted for replica sleepers rather than the heavy originals — but they still look fantastic and fit beautifully into the space.
A huge thank you to:
Ally Mac, our local joiner, for installing the beds
The Scottish Lottery Fund, for helping us to partly fund this project
🌿 Meet the Green Team: Michelle, Roberta & Tony
We are delighted to welcome our new Green Team volunteers, Michelle, Roberta and Tony!
They have generously offered their time and gardening skills to help revitalise the flower beds around the Village Hall.
Funding this project, along with the tree trimming, has been made possible through support from CVA memberships — so a big thank you to everyone who supports the CVA and helps us keep the village looking its best.
🤝 Can You Help? Volunteers Needed
While we are making great progress, we still need volunteers to help maintain the lane between the Village Green and Govans Way.
Our Green Team have kindly said they will keep an eye on the area — which is fantastic news. To support them and make things more manageable, the CVA has decided to sponsor an initial clean-up, helping to lighten the workload and make future upkeep easier.
However, they ca not do it alone.
If you would like to become part of the Green Team and help keep this part of the village looking its best, please do get in touch. Whether you have gardening experience or just want to lend a hand, every bit of help truly makes a difference.
This is a very rewarding and very casual role — there is no set hours or formal commitment. You simply do what you can, when you can, and help keep an eye on things.
Whether it is pulling a few weeds, picking up litter, or just helping to spot anything that needs attention — every little bit helps, and your involvement makes a real difference to the village.
🌟 Thank You!
With your support, we are creating a cleaner, greener, and more welcoming space for everyone in the village.
Cheers,
Franziska
